Understanding Alternative Fuel Trucking
Alternative fuel trucking is gaining momentum as fleets look to reduce fuel costs, meet sustainability goals, and prepare for evolving emissions regulations. The primary alternatives to diesel include battery-electric vehicles, hydrogen fuel-cell trucks, renewable natural gas (RNG), compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied natural gas (LNG), biodiesel, and renewable diesel. Each option offers different tradeoffs in cost, range, infrastructure availability, and emissions reduction. Battery-electric trucks are best suited for shorter routes, while hydrogen and natural gas solutions may better support longer-haul operations. Adoption is being driven by government incentives, customer demand for greener supply chains, and advances in fueling and charging infrastructure. However, fleets must car
