This academic case study describes how the ARUS Andalucía Racing Team used Altair simulation tools to improve the crashworthiness of a Formula SAE nose cone. By introducing a hybrid composite laminate incorporating Nomex® fiber, the team investigated impact behavior under dynamic loading conditions. Using Altair Radioss, HyperMesh, and OptiStruct, students validated material properties, optimized laminate layouts, and improved energy absorption. The redesigned nose cone demonstrated improved fracture behavior and safety performance, helping prepare the team for competition while providing hands-on experience with advanced composite simulation.
