Amazone used Altair’s coupled DEM and CFD simulation technology to optimize pneumatic seeding machines and improve seed placement accuracy. Physical testing alone could not capture the complex interactions between seeds and airflow within large-scale equipment. By combining Altair EDEM and AcuSolve, Amazone developed a predictive model of the full seed transport system, including particle tanks, riser tubes, and distributor heads. Simulations accurately represented non-spherical seed behavior and airflow dynamics, correlating well with experimental results. The virtual approach reduced development time by up to 40%, minimized seed waste, improved yield consistency, and supported Amazone’s mission to deliver sustainable, high-efficiency farming solutions.
