ChemAxon needed to ensure its software could be securely installed on Windows systems by meeting SmartScreen requirements, which require extended validation certificates to verify authenticity. This process demands secure handling of encryption keys within hardware security modules for high assurance. To address this, ChemAxon implemented Entrust nShield HSMs in its data center to support secure code signing using PKCS#11. This solution strengthened the protection of cryptographic keys, ensured compliance with Windows security standards, and enabled trusted software distribution, helping maintain user confidence and protect against malware risks.
