Doppelmayr needed to assess wind loads and aerodynamic behavior of ropeway systems operating in harsh alpine conditions. Traditional wind tunnel testing was expensive and time-consuming. Using Altair ultraFluidX, engineers performed GPU-accelerated CFD simulations across multiple chairlift configurations and wind conditions. Results showed strong correlation with experimental data, with less than 5% deviation. The simulations enabled faster design evaluation, reduced testing costs, and delivered deeper aerodynamic insights than physical testing alone. This approach improved passenger safety, system reliability, and development efficiency for complex transportation systems.
