Compression PoC for Nokia proves 40x performance gain
To resolve a performance bottleneck in Nokia Airframe Group’s storage application, Napatech designed a hardware acceleration solution based on an FPGA-powered SmartNIC to compress 40 Gbps of raw data. Napatech’s advanced onboard software was central to unburdening Nokia's host architecture, efficiently offloading and managing the intensive compression algorithms. This software-driven acceleration delivered a massive 40x performance improvement compared to standard software compression, utilizing only a single CPU core. By dramatically reducing processor overhead, the integrated software solution allowed Nokia to maximize storage throughput, optimize infrastructure efficiency, and achieve millions in estimated CAPEX and OPEX savings across their virtualized environment.
