The Australian Taxation Office’s Data Centre Migration program was one of the most significant technology transformations in its history, involving 1,350 people across the ATO and service providers over 1,734 days. The program executed more than 10,000 changes, deployed over 1,000 applications, and built thousands of virtual and physical servers while decommissioning more than 5,000 legacy servers. This large-scale migration modernized systems and infrastructure, enabling the ATO to keep pace with evolving technology, rising demand, and community expectations. The program strengthened operational resilience, improved service delivery, and ensured Australian taxpayer data remained secure throughout the transformation.
