Japanese Cable Operator Reduces Costs and Operational Burdens using Thunder CFW DNS Solutions

This case study describes how KCT Co., a Japanese cable TV and internet provider, modernized aging cache DNS servers and load balancers by consolidating 13 devices into two redundant A10 Thunder CFW appliances that combine recursive DNS and load balancing. The shift reduced costs (including major electricity savings), simplified day-to-day operations through a web GUI and familiar CLI, and improved business continuity by enabling outsourced consumer cache DNS to fail over to in-house capability if needed. Thunder CFW also added DNS security value, including DNS over HTTPS and mechanisms to blunt phishing-related DNS abuse, while A10 support helped with tuning as DNS traffic patterns shifted from UDP to TCP.
