Kern Medical Center Defends Against Ransomware and Migrates to Azure with Rubrik
Kern Medical Center, a 222-bed public hospital and the region’s only Level II trauma center, needed continuous access to EMR, radiology, epilepsy monitoring, financial, and billing systems. Its tape-based backup environment required daily attention, produced lengthy restores, and lacked an efficient cloud path. Rubrik introduced immutable protection, near-zero RTOs, and seamless Azure archival for records that may require retention for up to 25 years. When ransomware began encrypting systems, Rubrik enabled Kern Medical to recover 100% of the workloads it protected. Backup management fell by more than 90%, returning an estimated 42 days of productivity annually to the IT team. Restores that previously took hours can now occur in seconds, allowing staff to focus on higher-value initiatives
