In March 2013, the University of Central Florida faced an active shooter incident in which a former student planned to attack classmates during a residence hall evacuation. Although the gunman was stopped before carrying out the attack, the event exposed critical weaknesses in UCF’s security infrastructure. At the time, the university relied on disconnected surveillance, access control, and intrusion systems, limiting situational awareness and slowing emergency response.
