Case Study
Lean Amine Filtration in a Natural Gas Processing Plant
This case study describes a natural gas processing facility where effective lean amine filtration was essential to protect downstream equipment and maintain acid gas removal performance. The process includes gas separation, amine absorption and regeneration, dehydration, and sulfur recovery. Solid contaminants, rust, dust, and carbon fines posed risks of corrosion, foaming, and reboiler damage. Pentair implemented a staged filtration approach using particle separators and activated carbon beds, with upstream pre-filtration to protect carbon and downstream polishing filters to capture carbon fines. The solution improved solvent cleanliness, protected heat exchangers and reboilers, and ensured stable, long-term amine system operation.
