NTT Docomo delivers flexible, scalable 5G Standalone service
NTT Docomo launched its 5G Standalone (SA) service using NEC’s 5G Core on Red Hat OpenShift, enabling flexible, scalable, and efficient network services. Transitioning from VMs to containers improved resource use, simplified updates, and allowed faster, disruption-free scaling. Red Hat OpenShift’s Kubernetes-based platform streamlined service development, while collaboration with NEC and Red Hat Consulting ensured optimized performance. With Control and User Plane Separation (CUPS), Docomo achieved efficient scaling. Ongoing efforts include network slicing, IPv6 adoption, and automation, ensuring future-ready, flexible telecom services for business and consumer customers.
