Optomec and Siemens introduce advanced additive manufacturing machine for high value repair
Optomec, in collaboration with Siemens, developed the Optomec 558—an advanced additive manufacturing system designed for high-value metal repair, particularly in aerospace turbine blades. Using Directed Energy Deposition (DED) and Siemens’ SINUMERIK ONE CNC control, the machine integrates additive and subtractive processes with digitalization tools like edge computing and digital twin capabilities. This enables improved performance, predictive maintenance, and operator efficiency. The system leverages vision software (AutoClad®, AutoScript®, AutoShape®) to automate and adapt repairs with precision, reducing finishing time and ensuring consistent quality. Certified in multiple countries for critical aerospace components, the 558 enhances production scalability, flexibility, and traceability across industries such as aerospace, automotive, and power generation.
