In 2016, Bogotá’s security team responsible for citizen and visitor safety was operating with fragmented technology from 14 different contracts implemented over many years. The city had only 2,000 surveillance cameras, below international standards, and just 1,500 were functional due to obsolescence, vandalism, or technical issues. Cameras from multiple vendors operated independently with no centralized monitoring or management. Recognizing these limitations, the city identified the need for a mission-critical infrastructure platform designed to support Safe City and Internet of Things initiatives through centralized control, reliability, and scalability.
