Real-Time Liquid Detection Improves Gas Quality & Reduces Costs for a US Midstream Operator
A major U.S. midstream operator identified significant liquid carryover in its natural gas transmission system despite low reported hydrocarbon dewpoints. By deploying high-resolution process cameras at custody transfer points, the company achieved real-time visibility of mist and liquid flows that conventional analyzers missed. A “Three Strike” supplier policy was implemented to enforce gas quality. Results included reduced pigging frequency, fewer compressor trips, lower maintenance costs, extended asset life, and millions in recovered revenue—leading to network-wide standardization of the monitoring solution.
