TransANT used simulation and topology optimization to develop a lightweight, modular rail freight wagon platform that meets strict welding and certification standards. The challenge was to reduce weight while ensuring durability and manufacturability over a 30-year service life. Using Altair HyperWorks tools, engineers optimized welded sheet metal structures, evaluated fatigue performance, and validated compliance with Eurocode and FKM standards. The result was a modular wagon design with up to 20% weight reduction, fewer assembled parts, and increased payload capacity, enabling efficient serial production and more sustainable rail logistics.
