This case study introduces Snorkel and Xtreme Manufacturing, both part of the Ahern Family of Companies owned by Don F. Ahern. Snorkel specializes in manufacturing aerial work platforms, while Xtreme Manufacturing designs and builds heavy-duty rough-terrain telehandlers. Xtreme Manufacturing was founded based on Don Ahern’s firsthand experience in the rental industry, where he struggled to find a reliable telehandler for his fleet. This challenge inspired him to develop a machine that solved common engineering issues seen in existing products. The journey began in 1999 with the acquisition of Western Attachments Company, laying the foundation for producing durable, performance-driven equipment built to meet real-world rental and jobsite demands.
