Case Study
Transforming Dairy Farm Methane to Clean Fuel
This case study describes how a biofuels company partnered with California dairy farms to capture methane from manure and convert it into renewable natural gas for transportation use. A hub-and-spoke network of anaerobic digesters and pipelines enabled the expansion from two farms to a growing regional system. Maintaining high compressor reliability and remote monitoring capabilities proved critical because downtime could be costly. After adopting industrial compression technology and enhanced controls, the operation achieved uptime above 98%, reduced maintenance challenges and established a strong foundation for future growth, with plans to add dozens of additional dairy digesters to the network.
