The U.S. Department of the Navy needed a way to manage critical data across hundreds of global sites, from remote land bases to ships at sea. Traditional storage systems couldn’t meet the demands of naval operations, where mission‑critical information must be accessible instantly, regardless of location or connectivity limits. Massive data volumes—from surveillance, navigation, maintenance, and intelligence systems—had to be available whether personnel were in Norfolk or on a destroyer in the Pacific. Existing infrastructure struggled to deliver the speed, reliability, and reach required for these complex, distributed environments.
