UC San Diego replaced a fragmented backup environment created by consolidating nine IT groups into one department. Multiple products generated errors, high licensing costs, and significant administrative work. Rubrik introduced centralized automation, multi-tenancy, self-service protection, SQL Live Mount, and AWS S3 archival. Recovery became 90% faster, while weekly backup administration dropped from about 10 hours to only 5–10 minutes. SQL Live Mount enables DBAs to rapidly create database copies for testing, recovery, and offline forensic analysis. Rubrik also migrated roughly 2,000 virtual machines to AWS S3 in only 36 hours and helped eliminate legacy systems costing nearly $100,000 annually.
