This case describes how the Virginia Department of Transportation streamlined winter operations using CalAmp iOn to manage snow and ice response more efficiently. VDOT oversees a fleet of about 4,000 owned vehicles, supported by thousands of contractor trucks that mobilize ahead of winter storms. Previously, staff manually checked in vehicles using clipboards across nine districts, a slow and labor-intensive process made worse during severe weather. By adopting a digital solution, VDOT replaced manual check-ins with automated visibility into vehicle arrivals and readiness.
