Water Utility Company Helps Employees Go with the Flow
American Water, the largest publicly traded water and wastewater utility in the US with 7,100 employees, revamped its benefits to offer greater choice and flexibility. Historically, represented and non-represented employees had different plan structures, but a new strategy introduced HDHP options for all, unbundled coverages, and added voluntary benefits like accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity, and pet insurance. With active enrollment required, Businessolver developed a tailored communications strategy including guides, infographics, and decision support tools. Nearly 45% used decision support, voluntary benefits saw strong adoption, and represented employees began selecting HDHPs.
