NIST released Cybersecurity Framework 2.0 in 2024, its first major update since 2014, expanding guidance to help organizations better assess and strengthen their cybersecurity posture. Driven by Executive Order 13636, the revised framework addresses modern threats and introduces updates to the Framework Core, which now includes a sixth function to provide a more comprehensive approach to managing cyber risk. NIST CSF 2.0 offers clearer structure, broader applicability, and improved methods for aligning cybersecurity practices with evolving operational and regulatory demands.
