How the Pandemic Continues to Shape Consumer Behavior in Southeast Asia

Digital disruption in Southeast Asia is being accelerated by strong investment and rapid consumer adoption. More than 80 percent of funds flowing into the region’s tech sector target areas such as fintech, e‑commerce enablers, EdTech, and platform ecosystems, driving sharp growth in digital wallets and online services. Since 2019, around 70 million new digital consumers have been added, and by 2021 nearly 80 percent of consumers were expected to be digital. E‑commerce has seen year‑over‑year growth in gross merchandise value, and most consumers are projected to spend even more on digital services after Covid‑19. To compete, businesses must rewrite a digital‑first agenda, rewire their business models, and build integrated ecosystems that deliver seamless end‑to‑end experiences.
