Cyberattacks targeting local authorities have surged worldwide in recent years. Across Europe, numerous cities suffered incidents in 2023 alone, including Essen, Namur, Seville, Agen, Lille, Naples, The Hague, Porto, Gondomar, Bratislava, Bern, and Olsztyn. Previous years saw similar attacks in Hanover, Mainz, Gijon, Caen, Palermo, Prague, Lviv, Gloucester, Linz, Liège, Turin, Potsdam, London, Angers, La Rochelle, Marseille, and Frankfurt. Incidents have also affected regions beyond Europe, such as Nairobi in Africa, highlighting the global and growing threat faced by local governments.
