Make the Right Choice When Selecting Hearing Protection in Construction
Construction workers are frequently exposed to hazardous noise levels above 85 dB, creating a high risk of permanent hearing loss. A significant proportion of workers either select incorrect hearing protection or fail to wear it consistently. Even short periods without protection drastically reduce effectiveness—for example, removing protection for 30 minutes can cut attenuation from 30 dB to 12 dB. Key risk factors include poor fit, inadequate protection levels, lack of training, and absence of fit testing. Effective hearing conservation requires selecting appropriate equipment, ensuring proper fit, and wearing protection continuously throughout exposure.
