Evolution of Zero Trust and Microsegmentation
This SANS product review explains how microsegmentation has evolved from static VLANs, firewalls, and ACLs into an identity-driven Zero Trust control for hybrid, cloud, container, and on-premises environments. The review evaluates Zscaler Microsegmentation as an extension of the Zscaler platform, covering real-time asset discovery, agent deployment, resource grouping, cloud metadata, AppZones, flow logs, dashboards, telemetry, policy maps, and allow, block, and Sim Block policy controls. It finds the interface intuitive for creating groups, assigning labels, viewing communication flows, and enforcing policies to reduce lateral movement. The report recommends phased deployment, monitoring, policy tuning, and validation, concluding that the platform supports operations and Zero Trust model.
