IPV6 Deployment on the Internet
This report extends prior analysis of IPv4 address‑space usage into IPv6 by mapping the Internet’s IPv6 footprint over a 90‑day period using count data and unique resource‑record‑set statistics. DomainTools software helped by exposing large‑scale passive‑DNS datasets that enabled the team to aggregate and normalize IPv6‑centric activity, then visualize distributions via Hilbert‑curve “heatmaps” and violin plots despite the immense theoretical size of the IPv6 address space. By applying its DNSDB‑backed infrastructure, DomainTools let analysts highlight heavily used subnets, detect anomalous traffic patterns, and compare IPv6 usage dynamics to IPv4, giving security teams and network researchers a data‑driven way to understand and monitor the evolving IPv6 landscape.
