Medical Dermatology: Increasing Awareness and Access to Care in Latin America

Pages 38 Pages

This report examines the burden of atopic dermatitis and alopecia areata in Latin America, conditions often underestimated as cosmetic despite significant physical and psychosocial impact. Based on expert roundtables across four countries, it identifies barriers including limited awareness, insufficient specialist access, and inadequate reimbursement of innovative therapies. The report proposes five initiatives to improve outcomes, including public awareness campaigns, medical education, patient advocacy coalitions, value-based agreements, and updated treatment guidelines. It concludes that recognizing medical dermatology as a public health priority is essential to improving access and equity.
