Platform Engineering 2.0: An Evolution for the AI Era
Broadcom’s report argues that platform engineering must evolve for an AI era in which developers generate more code with AI, autonomous agents become platform users, and cloud and AI infrastructure costs grow more complex. “Platform Engineering 2.0” builds on existing practices rather than replacing them, expanding platforms beyond developers to serve security, data, FinOps, business teams and AI agents. The framework centers on five pillars: AI-native platforms, multi-persona experiences, embedded FinOps, deeper platform-level security and composable architecture. Ultimately, infrastructure must become more dynamic, continuously governed and cost-aware to support AI workloads, automation and enterprise-scale innovation.
