The Business Case for Hybrid Work: Evidence on Talent, Productivity, and Performance
Seramount’s report argues that hybrid work has evolved from a temporary pandemic response into a durable workforce strategy. Drawing on input from 100 CHROs and post-pandemic research, it finds that flexibility is a major driver of recruitment, retention and engagement, while strict five-day return-to-office mandates can lengthen hiring times and increase talent loss. Hybrid arrangements are generally associated with stronger productivity and neutral-to-positive business outcomes, with little evidence of systemic equity concerns. To maximize effectiveness, organizations should train teams for hybrid collaboration, create purposeful in-person opportunities for early-career employees, assign ownership of the hybrid experience and establish consistent in-office “anchor” days.
