The Evolution of Risk Reduction: Contextual Analysis and Automated Remediation in Threat and Exposure Management
This Enterprise Strategy Group report examines how threat and exposure management must evolve as assets, vulnerabilities, alerts, and cloud complexity grow faster than security teams can manage manually. Based on a survey of 400 IT and cybersecurity decision-makers in North America, it finds that 71% say risk reduction has not improved or has become harder over the past two years. Key challenges include public cloud growth, disconnected tools, manual processes, alert overload, limited staff, and difficulty operationalizing threat intelligence. The report argues that modern exposure management must move beyond finding issues to contextual prioritization, automated remediation, agentic AI, cross-team coordination, and scalable risk reduction workflows.
