ThreatLabz 2026 VPN Risk Report
Based on a survey of more than 800 IT and cybersecurity professionals, this report explains why traditional VPN architectures are increasingly ineffective against modern AI-powered cyber threats. It highlights how VPNs create broad network exposure, limited visibility into encrypted traffic, and opportunities for credential theft, ransomware, and lateral movement. Findings show that most organizations cannot patch VPN vulnerabilities quickly enough, inspect encrypted traffic effectively, or contain compromised sessions after attackers gain access. The report advocates replacing perimeter-based VPNs with Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA), emphasizing least-privilege access, inline inspection, continuous verification, improved visibility, and identity-based security to reduce operational risk
