This report analyzes the growing security and operational risks associated with traditional VPNs and explains why organizations are rapidly transitioning to Zero Trust Network Access. Based on a survey of more than 600 IT and security professionals, it finds that over half experienced attacks linked to VPN vulnerabilities, while 81% plan to implement Zero Trust by 2026 and 65% expect to phase out VPNs entirely. The report highlights ransomware exposure, lateral movement, third-party access risks, poor user experience, and AI-enabled attacks as major challenges. It concludes that Zero Trust delivers stronger security, granular access control, better performance, and lower operational complexity than legacy VPN architectures.
