This solution brief describes how the FortiGate Connector application integrates Fortinet firewalls with the HPE VAN SDN Controller to automate security in software-defined networks and data centers. The controller directs selected traffic to physical or virtual FortiGate appliances for malware protection, intrusion prevention, and application control. In the illustrated workflow, FortiGate blocks an external attack, informs the SDN controller, and the controller instructs the switch to block the attacker at the network edge. This prevents propagation while conserving firewall resources.
