Launch and receive cables are spools of fiber with test leads and specified optical connectors, placed at both ends of a fiber link when using an OTDR. They enable proper qualification of front‑end and far‑end connectors according to ITU‑T G650.3 and IEC guidelines. The launch cable is positioned between the OTDR and the fiber under test to measure the initial section of the link, while the receive cable is connected at the far end to capture end‑of‑fiber events. These cables ensure accurate connector assessment and prevent dead zones from obscuring critical measurements.
