Palo Alto Networks and Profitap: High-Availability Security with Bypass TAPs
This solution brief explains how Palo Alto Networks firewalls and Profitap Bypass TAPs protect high-availability networks without introducing a single point of failure. Profitap’s 10G and 40G Bypass TAPs sit inline and use configurable heartbeat packets to confirm that the connected firewall remains operational. If hardware, software, or power failure prevents the heartbeat from returning, the TAP automatically bypasses the appliance and keeps the critical network link active. Link failure propagation also supports alternative routing paths. Manual bypass mode allows teams to service, replace, or upgrade firewalls without interrupting connectivity, while out-of-band mode forwards traffic to monitoring tools without rewiring. Together, the technologies strengthen threat prevention, simplify
