This brief presents Fortinet’s carrier-grade security architecture for protecting mobile networks from attacks originating at subscriber endpoints, radio access backhauls, roaming partners, and internet-facing interfaces. FortiOS-Carrier and purpose-built security processors support the scale, connection rates, and content inspection demands of mobile operators. FortiGate secures the Gi/sGi internet interface, while Security Gateway functions protect S1 and Gp/S8 traffic using IPsec and inspection for GTP, SCTP, and MMS threats. Carrier-grade NAT supports IPv4 address expansion and migration to IPv6, while FortiADC optimizes gateway and application delivery. Physical and virtual platforms combine these functions into an automated clean-pipe architecture for the mobile packet core.
