This quick card explains how to update the SmartClass 4800 or T‑BERD/MTS‑5800 software using a USB flash drive. The software package must first be downloaded to a PC, extracted, and then copied onto a properly formatted 4–16 GB USB drive; copying the compressed file directly will cause the update to fail. After powering on the tester, the USB drive is inserted into the unit to begin the upgrade process. This method is required for units that are several major releases behind and ensures a safe, reliable update when internet‑based upgrades are not recommended.
