The Effects of Sample Presentation in Near-Infrared (NIR) Spectroscopy
NIR spectroscopy is valued for its ability to measure powders, liquids, solids, and slurries with little or no sample preparation, allowing materials to be analyzed in their native state and improving throughput. However, proper method development requires consistent and repeatable sample presentation to avoid introducing variability in the spectra. Inconsistent sample placement on the spectrometer can create unnecessary variance, increasing error in quantitative calibration models. The main factors affecting sample presentation must be controlled to ensure reliable, reproducible measurements over time.
