LISP separates routing locators and identifiers, which are traditionally combined in an IP address, using a map‑and‑encapsulate approach defined in RFC 1955. This allows identity and location information to be treated independently, with identifiers and locators represented as IP addresses or other elements such as MAC addresses or GPS coordinates. Supported across all Spirent TestCenter modules, devices can operate as ETR, ITR, or both. The solution enables configuration of LISP roles, mapping behavior, and encapsulation functions, allowing thorough testing of LISP performance, interoperability, and deployment scenarios within modern network environments.
