Unstructured Data Mobility at Scale: The NAS CD Copy Engine
The NAS CD Copy Engine is a policy-driven synchronization platform for moving and replicating large unstructured datasets between NAS, object storage, on-premises infrastructure, and public clouds. A stateless VM scans source metadata, maintains a persistent index, calculates differences between runs, and transfers only added, modified, or deleted files while preserving permissions. Latency-aware throttling protects production workloads, while multithreaded copying and parallel compute enable high throughput. Use cases include high-performance NAS migration, inter-cloud mobility, active replication and archiving, and workspace data copies. The engine can saturate 10 Gbps per copy task, and a cited 50+ PB GCS-to-AWS migration sustained 160 Gbps through horizontal scaling. NAS CD maintains a
