Scratches, defects, and dirt on fiber optic connector end faces can significantly degrade network performance, especially as bandwidth demands grow and fiber reaches deeper into networks. If these issues are not addressed consistently, they can impair signal quality and eventually cause complete link failures. To help ensure reliable performance, the IEC established Standard 61300‑3‑35, which defines pass/fail criteria for inspecting connector end faces before they are mated. This standard provides a common framework for maintaining clean, high‑quality optical connections.
