This white paper explores how healthcare organizations can adopt AI while keeping patient value, clinical quality, and workforce needs at the center. Although hospitals and care providers are experimenting with generative AI, many projects risk failure because of weak data quality, unclear value, high costs, limited adoption, and insufficient governance. The paper recommends starting with concrete operational or clinical problems rather than vague technology ambitions. Promising uses include consultation transcription, discharge-letter summaries, diagnostic support, staff planning, patient education, and administrative automation. UZ Gent’s FRAIT project demonstrates how AI can tailor discharge summaries to different care providers while preserving the original document for verification. S
