IT-based threats increasingly affect OT environments as attackers use ransomware, vulnerability exploits, and supply chain compromises to gain initial access through IT networks and move into industrial systems. Since Stage 1 of the ICS Cyber Kill Chain often begins in IT, weaknesses such as poor segmentation, unpatched systems, or compromised credentials become bridges into OT. Once inside, attackers can disrupt operations, halt production, or compromise safety. Strengthening defenses requires improved visibility, tighter network boundaries, multi-layered monitoring, and rapid response capabilities across both IT and OT infrastructures.
