White Paper
Next-Generation Anti-Piracy for TV and Video: Shifting From Reaction to Prevention
This Omdia white paper explains why streaming piracy requires a shift from post-incident enforcement to proactive prevention. Survey data shows that 21% of online adults access unauthorized video, rising to 43% among sports superfans and 46% among pay-TV sports superfans. Piracy increasingly exploits apps, stolen credentials, access tokens, unmanaged devices, and legitimate CDN infrastructure, creating higher bandwidth costs and lost premium-content revenue. Traditional DRM, takedowns, and monitoring remain necessary but cannot prevent attacks alone. Omdia recommends combining cloud-based Multi-DRM, forensic watermarking, application shielding, continuous client authentication, access control, and real-time monitoring. This layered architecture blocks tampered apps and unauthorized devices
