Do you have a warehouse? If your company has a forklift or other powered industrial truck, chances are it also has a warehouse. However, having a warehouse onsite may increase your odds of an inspection from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). That’s because the agency has launched an inspection program nationwide that targets warehousing and distribution operations, mail processing and distribution centers, parcel delivery and courier services, and certain high-risk retail operations. What’s more, OSHA has budgeted its enforcement, assistance, AND training staff to put a priority on warehouse worker hazards nationwide. The agency wants its efforts to “reach vulnerable workers in high hazard and essential industries,” namely warehousing. You cannot wait for OSHA’s knock on the door to begin preparing for the inspection and ensuring compliance. Take steps now to meet your OSHA obligations and think about what you’re going to do if or when a compliance officer arrives.
