Sensor Size and 4K Image Quality: Why Bigger Pixels Matter
This paper explains that image quality in 4K cameras depends not only on resolution but also on sensor size and pixel dimensions. Smaller pixels, often used to increase resolution within the same sensor size, capture less light and require more amplification, leading to higher noise levels, especially in low light. Larger sensors allow larger pixels that capture more photons, improving signal-to-noise ratio, dynamic range, and overall image clarity. This results in better low-light performance, reduced motion blur through shorter exposure times, and more detailed images. Axis cameras with larger sensors combine high resolution with superior image quality, offering clearer and more reliable surveillance footage.
