Developing Sustainable Motors by Designing E-Motors Independent of Rare Earth Metals
Spin collaborated with Altair to develop high-efficiency electric motors without rare earth materials. Using a comprehensive multiphysics simulation workflow, Spin evaluated electromagnetic, structural, thermal, and vibro-acoustic performance before prototyping. Tools such as Flux, SimSolid, OptiStruct, and HyperStudy enabled optimization across operating conditions while validating results against bench testing. The outcome was a synchronous reluctance motor that met performance targets, reduced environmental impact, and shortened development time. The project demonstrated how simulation-driven design enables sustainable innovation in next-generation electric motor technology.
