The University of Bristol worked with Xtravirt to build a GPU-powered Omnissa Horizon VDI platform that replaces a fragmented mix of legacy remote-desktop technologies and fixed-location computer labs. The new environment gives students and researchers access to high-performance computing regardless of their personal device or location, improving digital equity and flexibility. Compute-heavy student tasks can now finish up to 12 hours faster, reducing processing times by as much as 75%, while the platform supports up to 1,000 concurrent VDI users. Centralized provisioning and updates reduce IT overhead, and unused desktop capacity can be repurposed overnight to cut energy use and hardware waste.
